PERSEPHONE

The Maiden

How does the Goddess of Spring become the Queen of the Underworld?

A light-hearted retelling of the timeless love story between Hades and Persephone.

"I’m curious. What were you thinking bringing a girl like her to a place like this? That child has spent her whole entire life kissed by sunshine, surrounded by beauty, music, and flowers, watching butterflies floating by on the wind, and you brought her here. Here where it is dark and dank, and everywhere she looks, there are dead people." — Hecate

Following the death of his first wife, Hades the Lord of the Underworld becomes morose and melancholy. He even wishes to die himself but once he sees the beautiful maiden Persephone, he falls head over heels in love with her. He becomes determined to make her his wife. After tricking the innocent young maiden into coming with him to the Underworld, Hades enlists his friend Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft to help him win the girl's heart.

JOCASTA

The Mother

"Laius decided that he should probably leave me alone, or else one of us would end up dead, and it wasn't going to be me." —Jocasta

Despite her status as the Queen of Thebes, Jocasta does not live an idyllic existence. The men closest to her do not respect her opinions and refuse to acknowledge her as an individual with her own needs, wants, and desires. Instead, they treat her as little more than a brainless pawn whose sole purpose in life is to cater to their every whim. However, actions sometimes have dire consequences, and underestimating Jocasta could turn out to be the biggest mistake of their lives.

Furious at being marginalized and ignored, Jocasta sets out to seduce an enigmatic young man who is hiding a devastating secret of his own. With him by her side, she hopes to achieve the independence and recognition she has always craved. But will her union with Oedipus lead to love and contentment, or will his secret, once revealed, ultimately destroy them both?
